It’s not often Xiaomi is talked about here in the States, but the brand has quickly gained popularity in Asian markets for its affordable yet powerful smartphones. We even came to enjoy our time with its current flagship, the Mi4, as we noted in our full review, which is exactly why the possibility of the Xiaomi Mi5 launch date landing in just a few short weeks has us excited.
Analyst Sun Changxu expects the phone to feature praise-worthy specs such as a 5.7-inch 2K display, a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, and a 20.7MP camera. Considering that the second item is currently facing some delays, it seems unlikely that a CES launch would be possible, but that is exactly what we’re being told here.
Recent rumors also are suggesting that the phone will feature razor-thin bezels as well, and retain the affordable price points of its siblings in Xiaomi’s lineup. There’s no word on exact pricing and availability quite yet.
If this is in fact true, it sure can’t hurt to see this beast announced. After all, Xiaomi phones have some of the best price to performance ratios around, so there’s little not to like about the brand on the hardware front.
